Mitsubishi’s dilemma reminds me a lot of what Porsche went through a few years back. They didn’t ditch the flat‑six roar; instead they launched the Taycan alongside the 911 Turbo, using the same chassis expertise to make an electric car that still feels “Porsche‑ish.” Mitsubishi could pull the same trick – keep the high‑rev V6 character for models like the Lancer Evolution or the new Outlander PHEV, while rolling out a dedicated EV platform that focuses on torque and efficiency. The key is to let the powertrain choice match the vehicle’s purpose: a rugged off‑roader or a street‑tuned performance sedan gets the gas engine, whereas a daily commuter or fleet vehicle gets the electric setup. From a suspension‑tuning standpoint, you’re already dealing with different weight distributions and instant torque spikes in EVs, so keeping a performance‑oriented engine means you can reuse a lot of the suspension geometry you already know works in cold‑weather off‑road conditions. In short, go parallel – like BMW’s M and i lines – and let each powertrain play to its strengths instead of abandoning one camp entirely.
