I’m planning to start streaming on Twitch and want to keep the setup affordable. I’ve heard that some GPUs from a few generations back can still handle 1080p60 with software encoding, but I’m not sure which specs matter most. How does VRAM size, architecture age, and driver support affect streaming performance on older cards? Are there any common pitfalls, like lack of hardware encoding or driver updates, that I should watch out for? Would love to hear your experiences and recommendations.
What older GPU options are still viable for a beginner Twitch stream?

Thanks for the question! A GTX 1050 Ti or GTX 960 with at least 4 GB VRAM and NVENC support can still stream 1080p60, but be sure the drivers are still getting updates (the 10‑series does) and note that older NVENC versions lack the efficiency of newer cards. Have you checked whether your capture card’s software also prefers a more recent GPU generation?
