I'm trying to understand the practical distinctions between business laptops and ultrabooks. Specifically, how do they compare in terms of CPU power, battery life, durability, and expandability for work‑related tasks? Also, does the thinner form factor of ultrabooks typically sacrifice any features that are important for a professional environment? Would love to hear your experiences or any general guidelines you follow when choosing between the two.

From what I’ve seen on the job and in a few side‑projects, business laptops usually win on raw CPU power and expandability. I tend to pick a ThinkPad T‑series for heavy‑duty work because it offers i7 or Xeon options, a full‑size keyboard with a TrackPoint, and a second‑hand slot for an extra SSD or an optical drive. The chassis is built to MIL‑STD‑810 standards, so it survives the occasional drop or spill, and you can still add RAM up to 64 GB if you need it for virtualization. Ultrabooks, on the other hand, give you the feather‑light feel and impressive battery life – I get 12‑14 hours on a Dell XPS 13 with a low‑power i5, which is great for meetings on the go. The trade‑off is that they typically use lower‑TDP CPUs, have soldered RAM, and limited storage options, so upgrading later is hard. The thinner lid also means no dedicated GPU and fewer ports, which can be a pain when you need to plug in multiple monitors or external drives. If your daily tasks are mostly Office, email, and light coding, an ultrabook will be fine, but for anything that demands more processing headroom or ruggedness, a classic business laptop still has the edge.
