For most streaming setups at 1080p, I'd prioritize refresh rate over panel type if forced to choose—144Hz+ over 60Hz, every single time. The reason isn't even about the "240 FPS for a 240Hz monitor" memes; it's latency. A 60Hz panel with G-Sync or FreeSync adds roughly 16.6ms inherent delay from refresh cycle alone, while a 144Hz panel cuts that down to ~6.9ms. That 10ms swing can be the difference between a Twitch viewer seeing your cursor twitch after you move it and them seeing it in perfect sync. I've run both extremes—my old 60Hz IPS had just enough lag to feel like chewing through molasses in fast-paced shooters, while my current 144Hz VA unit (P27q-Pro if you're curious) feels like wielding a lightsaber in terms of responsiveness.
Panel type comes second, but it’s still critical. VA wins for my use case because 1ms GTG response on high contrast scenes prevents smear that ruins stream aesthetics—try watching a rapid camera pan with an IPS at 144Hz and you'll see ghosting ruin the immersion before it even hits the encoder. IPS still takes the lead on color accuracy (factory-calibrated Delta-E < 2), but only if you're running OBS with the right GPU LUT. Bottom line: if you're gaming primarily for content, get 144Hz+ VA. If you're color-grading or streaming artistic content where accuracy trumps speed, lean into IPS with a light gamut.
