When I was prepping for YKS last year, the first thing that shocked me was how the raw scores turned into the final scaled scores. After the exam, I got my raw correct‑wrong counts for each test type (TYT, AYT‑Matematik, AYT‑Türkçe, etc.) and immediately ran them through the net‑score formula: net = correct − (incorrect ÷ 4). The tricky part was remembering that each test type has its own coefficient: TYT’s net is multiplied by about 1.5, while AYT‑Matematik gets around 2.4 and AYT‑Fen around 2.2. Once those weighted nets were summed, the ÖSYM taban puanı was added, giving the final score you see on the portal.
In my case, a few extra wrong answers in the TYT math section cost me about 0.3 points after the coefficient was applied, which felt huge when I was aiming for a specific university quota. The transparency is decent—ÖSYM publishes the exact coefficients and the taban scores each year—so once you know the formula you can predict how a change of one net point affects your final score. That’s why I always track my net per section after each practice test; it lets me see where a small improvement will give the biggest boost in the final tally.
