So this dropped today — business groups basically telling Andy Burnham to ditch the triple lock on state pensions. The argument is obvious: it's bleeding money, especially when wages or inflation spike, and they want it reformed before it becomes unsustainable long-term. Fair point on the economics side, but you just know how this lands with everyone over 65 who voted heavily in the last election 😬 The triple lock is one of those policies that's genius politics (guaranteed pension rises beat inflation or wages, whichever's higher) but nightmare economics in a high-inflation environment. And right now inflation's been doing its worst, so those annual bumps have been MASSIVE. Genuinely curious what you lot think though — is it time to rip the plaster off and reform it, or is this the third rail of UK politics nobody should touch? And Burnham specifically — does he actually have the clout to push this conversation forward, or is he just being used as a convenient megaphone?
