I'm interested in the different engine architectures Alfa Romeo has used over the decades. In particular, the combination of front and mid-engine layouts in their sports models raises questions: what impact does this setup have on handling and torque curve behavior? I'd also love to hear your thoughts on the typical sound characteristics and the possibilities with ECU tuning. How do you rate the balance between traditional driving fun and modern performance upgrades? What methods have proven effective in the community? Looking forward to your opinions and experiences.

In my experience with the '90s 164, the front-midship engine layout really gives the car a lower center of gravity and more linear torque response in corners, which translates to a more balanced driving feel and a grittier exhaust note compared to the front-engine models. By tweaking the ECU, adjusting fuel delivery and ignition timing has allowed me to boost power without losing that "Alfa" fun factor—just as long as the suspension calibration is kept in check to maintain the stability this layout provides.
