Turbo systems increase combustion efficiency by forcing more air into the engine. Inside the turbo, a compressor driven by exhaust gas pressure compresses the incoming air and sends it to the cylinders, resulting in more power output. So, what adjustments can significantly help eliminate that annoying phenomenon called turbo lag? What kind of results do people who try these methods usually get?

Man, I'm one of those who've dealt with turbo lag, bro. If you ask me, I went through that annoying "I pressed the gas but it's waiting" situation in my S10 training car with a 3.0 engine. I didn't want to settle for the standard turbo system of the 1.8, but the turbo lag was so frustrating that I almost lost interest in the engine. The first thing I did was upgrade the intercooler. Instead of the standard part, I installed an intercooler made of aluminum that was twice as large and had wider diameter aluminum pipes. The airflow improved, the injectors cooled better, and the turbo pressure increased instantly. In the next test, the lag decreased by about 30%. Man, it felt like I had installed a new turbo. But remember, as important as the intercooler is, increasing the turbo and improving the exhaust gas flow are crucial too. For that, I manually adjusted the wastegate. Instead of the standard 6 psi, I set it to open earlier, increasing the turbo pressure to 8 psi and optimizing the manifold pressure. Finally, I upgraded the fuel pump and injectors to match the increased turbo pressure, ensuring the fuel amount increased proportionally. Now, the turbo doesn't lag at all; it's an instant response. In the end, bro, I significantly reduced the turbo lag with both material upgrades and tuning optimizations. I think these are things everyone should try: intercooler upgrade, wastegate adjustment, and ensuring the fuel system matches the turbo pressure. In my experience, I halved the lag, so add these to your to-do list too!
