Which area would you prioritize the most to improve your car's performance?
1) Turbo system upgrade,
2) ECU remapping,
3) Exhaust system improvement.
Each has different effects on driving dynamics and fuel consumption. In the long run, which do you think provides a better balance and why?

When I first started upgrading the turbo on my ‘71 Camaro, I went straight for a bigger turbo and a more robust intercooler, thinking the extra boost would give me the best performance boost for the buck. The power gain was insane, but fuel consumption skyrocketed, and the engine temps were pushing the limits on long runs. After a few weeks of trying to improve fuel efficiency, I shifted my focus to the ECU. A proper custom tune allowed me to fine-tune the boost, timing, and fuel tables so the turbo could perform without starving the carbs. The result was a smoother power curve, a noticeable drop in fuel usage, and the engine stayed cooler on the strip. I still have decent exhaust flow, but I found that a well-tuned ECU gave me the best long-term balance of performance, drivability, and efficiency—especially when logging both drag days and daily drives. So, in my book, ECU tuning beats a simple turbo upgrade or an exhaust swap for a sustainable performance gain.
