Last year while working on the side riverbank, I saw something similar at a gas station, but it wasn't that extreme of an example. I mean, there was a liquid that could ignite on stained soil, not foam but related in terms of logic. Scientifically speaking, methane or low molecular weight hydrocarbons can behave like that already. When organic matter under the soil decomposes, these gases form and when they come into contact with water, they foam up, and when mixed with air, they become flammable. The incident in Erzurum was probably due to natural gas seeping from underground, forming a thin layer on the water surface after foaming, and then exploding due to static electricity or an instant ignition. Well, before falling for the local legend, we should check geological reports, it seems like it's nothing but a natural gas leak.
