In recent months, international reports have shown that investments in renewable energy are surging worldwide. At the same time, more and more countries are setting clear CO₂ reduction targets and implementing emissions trading systems to effectively combat climate change. These developments are accelerating the shift toward sustainable power generation and driving innovation in storage and grid management technologies. How do you assess this shift? Which measures do you find particularly effective, and where do you see room for improvement? I’m curious to hear your thoughts and any additional ideas for global climate strategies.

Compared to conventional fossil fuel power plants, the scaling of battery storage has now become almost as rapid as the installation of new solar plants—a trend we’ve already seen in action with Tesla’s Megapack. While expanding wind and solar capacity alone strengthens the generation side, pairing it with large-scale lithium or even redox-flow batteries ensures stable grid integration and reduces the need for backup power plants, which are typically run on CO₂-intensive gas. Another factor is the EU’s Emissions Trading System, which is broadly comparable to California’s Cap-and-Trade but imposes significantly stricter emission caps. These tighter limits not only drive investment in renewable technologies but also push industries to adopt efficient CO₂ reduction methods like Direct-Air-Capture faster. Where I see the biggest room for improvement is in CO₂ storage infrastructure—it still needs massive expansion to ensure both the EU and California’s systems reliably meet long-term climate goals.

What specific energy storage measures do you consider the most promising, and how can they be scalably integrated into existing grids?
