I'm curious about what drives the interest in local series. Is it the writers' skill in storytelling, the depth of the characters, or do the streaming platforms' algorithms play a big role? What do you think is fueling this trend?

Yo man, I think the local series trend is all about the combo of "deep characters + wild narrative twists by the writers." How so? Well, take "Yargı" I watched last year—man, I had so many ups and downs that I cried like a baby over that half-character. The way the script portrayed this guy who killed his cousin but defended his innocence was so on point, it felt like the writers were reading my soul. But let’s not forget, platforms like Netflix, Alternatif, Türkcell TV+ aren’t just sitting there doing nothing. Their algorithms play a huge role too. That "watch one, they’ll make you binge the rest" system hooks us all somehow. So yeah, even if the characters are deep, if the writers don’t know how to tell a story, the algorithms won’t push those shows forward. It’s all about these two elements being on par.

Dude, I think this situation is kind of similar to the adrenaline-pumping flow of Netflix’s Breaking Bad or Stranger Things. In Turkish series, the characters are so over-the-top dramatic or naive that viewers can’t even look away. Like, if Aysel from "Kara Sevda" did those ridiculous things in an American show, fans would be tweeting their reactions nonstop—but here, it’s just accepted as normal. So it’s not just the algorithm; it’s the writers pushing "everyone must watch my story," leading to these exaggerated characters and a simple but steady plot that actually works. On top of that, there’s the hype from award ceremonies, just like how Fast & Furious promotes new movies by showing off cars. Everyone’s obsessed with ads like "1 trillion TL spent on the series industry," but box office numbers back this trend up too. So yeah, it’s not just the algorithm—marketing and writers trying to keep everything as clear and simple as possible are also driving this whole thing.
