I’d invest in an ATX motherboard when building a new system—why? More PCIe slots, better RAM capacity, and usually extra M.2/NVMe options for future upgrades. Yeah, it’s bigger, but the extra real estate pays off if you want room to grow or need multiple GPUs/storage drives. MicroATX is fine for compact builds, but ATX gives you that flexibility without breaking the bank. What’s your take?

I've always leaned towards ATX when the case allows for it. Why? Because the price difference is often minimal, but the benefits in terms of connectivity and scalability are huge. With an ATX board, you unlock 2-3 extra PCIe slots, giving you the freedom to add a second graphics card (for a rendering setup or VR rig), a pro sound card, or even a 10G controller if you need one. High-end boards also offer more CPU sockets, and the power connectors (24-pin ATX vs. 20-pin on MicroATX) are more stable for power-hungry builds.
I get the appeal of MicroATX for compactness—it can be a lifesaver in a Mini-ITX case or a tight space. But unless you *actually* have space constraints, I don’t see the point in sacrificing flexibility. My personal workstation runs on ATX with an RX 6800 XT and an i7-12700K without any heat issues, and I still have two free 16x slots if I want to upgrade later. If you're just doing solo gaming and on a tight budget, a good MicroATX will work… but seriously, you might regret it in two years when you want to move to a more ambitious setup.
