It seems like a transition to PCIe 5.0 is inevitable, especially as new graphics cards and PCIe 5.0 SSDs hit the market. Speaking from experience, when I built a new system last month, I opted for a motherboard with PCIe 5.0×16 support, and I really noticed the difference in bandwidth. The jump in read/write speeds for PCIe 5.0 SSDs is insane—my system is hitting consistent read speeds around 12GB/s, which is almost double what PCIe 4.0 offers. Of course, the whole system needs to be compatible, or you're just wasting potential.
That said, to fully take advantage of PCIe 5.0, both hardware and software (drivers, BIOS updates) need to support it. It can take a bit of effort, especially compared to older systems.
