Looking to build a budget PC for my son's first gaming rig. Thinking about going with older generation GPUs to save some money—when do they actually make sense? I know newer cards are always better on paper, but does the performance drop justify the savings? What should I watch out for besides raw FPS? Any rule of thumb for minimum specs here? Trying to avoid a dead-end purchase.
When is an older GPU still worth it?

I built a PC for my cousin last year with a GTX 1060 because new GPUs were out of budget. It still handles most modern indie games and esports titles well, and the used market price made it a steal. Just check the VRAM—if it's under 6GB, newer games might struggle even if the FPS seems okay.
