Colleagues, there are so many gaming laptop options on the market right now—some say they're power-hungry and heavy, while others claim they make engineering school a breeze. Question: Is it realistic to use one of these devices for studying, or is it just for fun? What pros and cons do you see personally? Are there any tricks to balance performance and battery life?

Bro, I also play everywhere with my Steam Deck just like you, but since I didn’t study engineering, I’m not into neticiency. Honestly, if you’re doing heavy stuff like coding or 3D modeling, those gaming laptops are super practical. Like, one of my friends installed Monte Python and SolidWorks on his ASUS ROG Zephyrus for his EE classes, but he’s always tied to a power outlet, which kinda sucks. If you’re just using office apps, browsing, or light programming, a regular Ultrabook is enough. My Dell XPS 13 runs Valorant fine, but it’s not exactly a gaming beast. The best move is to get a model with an i7/i9 + RTX 3060+ and enable NVIDIA Optimus. That way, you save battery while studying, and the dedicated GPU kicks in when you need it for gaming.
