I'm planning to get a gaming laptop and would love to hear your opinions. What specs should a beginner-friendly laptop have in your opinion? 1) Maximum graphics performance, even if it makes the device heavy and power-hungry. 2) Lightweight, thin model with good battery life, but moderate performance. 3) Budget-friendly laptop that can handle common games at medium settings. What would be your top choice and why?

For beginners, the third option—a budget-friendly laptop that easily handles mainstream games on medium settings—is usually the most sensible choice. It offers a great balance between price and performance, so you don’t have to invest a huge amount upfront in a device you might replace in a few years. Compared to a heavy, pure graphics monster (Option 1), you save not just on weight and power consumption, but also on upfront costs, which is especially important when taking your first steps into the gaming world.
However, if you consider a desktop PC, you’ll notice that a mini gaming laptop (Option 2) often doesn’t offer much more flexibility than a small desktop build with similar performance. With a desktop, you usually get better upgrade potential and more efficient cooling for roughly the same price. That’s why I’d recommend starting with the affordable laptop so you can dive right in, and later, if you need more power, upgrading to a desktop.
I'm leaning towards Option 3 because a good price-to-performance ratio is often most important for beginners. What resolution and refresh rate do you need for the games you mainly want to play?
