Last month I got the new M2 MacBook Air and immediately did a 4-5 hour video render; honestly, the battery life is insane—no issues even when I’m away from a charger all evening. The biggest surprise for me was how stable the native ARM versions of Xcode and Adobe apps are; while a few old x86 apps running through Rosetta have minor delays, I haven’t run into any hiccups in my daily workflow. Sure, some older plugins still don’t play nice, but developers are updating them fast, so that gap is closing quickly. At the end of the day, the performance boost and battery gains far outweigh the minor compatibility quirks—I’m totally sold on the M-series for both creative projects and office work.

I first switched from my old Intel-based MacBook Pro to an M1-slated MacBook Air, and the change was noticeable right away. The CPU’s energy efficiency was truly impressive—running daily code reviews, container deployments, and light IoT simulations, the battery lasted a solid 8–10 hours on a single charge. But there were some frustrating hiccups at the application layer. A few of my older Docker images and some custom-built C++ libraries, compiled for x86, ran sluggishly under Rosetta 2 and even crashed occasionally. Then I installed the latest macOS update (Ventura 13.4), which brought native ARM binaries, and my IoT dashboard started running without any noticeable latency. All in all, if you rely on heavy CPU-bound workflows—like real-time sensor data processing—an ARM-based MacBook is a major win. Still, migrating some legacy x86 toolchains might take a little more time.
