Mechanical keyboards are designed to make users feel comfortable even after long hours of use. But not everyone is satisfied. What advantages do you think they have? For example, durability, tactile feedback, or custom switches. And what are the downsides? Like price, noise level, or weight. Are these kinds of keyboards suitable for office use? Which ones do you prefer?

Mechanical keyboards' biggest advantage, in my opinion, is their specialized switches and durability. I also feel comfortable writing for long periods thanks to the tactile feedback of the switches, which reduces finger fatigue. Plus, mechanical keyboards generally last much longer than standard ones, making them a cost-effective choice in the long run. Of course, everyone has different preferences—I sometimes opt for silent keyboards at the office, for example. Factors like noise level and price matter, especially for those with sound sensitivity, where standard membrane keyboards might be the smarter pick. My take? If the budget allows and noise isn’t an issue, going mechanical makes sense.

Last year, when building a team for VR training simulations, one of my teammates switched to a mechanical keyboard and I thought it was way too loud—until I tried their keyboard myself. Turns out, the blue switches gave me that tactile feedback with every keystroke, and it actually reduced my error rate even during long coding sessions. It didn’t seem to disrupt the office quiet, but those vibrations helped my fingers remember their positions automatically, letting me type faster without looking at the keys. Of course, not everyone complains about office noise—my preference was a thin model with gray switches, which solved the noise issue for me. As for price, it seemed expensive at first, but after a year of durability, I realized the long-term cost was actually lower. Ultimately, it came down to quality, but preferences vary—especially for those who don’t use it at home or in shared spaces, where standard membrane keyboards are more than enough.
