For mobile recordings with smartphones, the polar pattern actually plays a crucial role—especially when working on the go or in noisy environments. In my tests with different microphones, I’ve tried both omnidirectional and cardioid models, and I have to say: for pure voice recordings (like interviews or podcasts), cardioid is simply unbeatable.
