In recent years, the topic of microphones in phones has really come to the forefront. Nowadays, microphone quality isn't just important for calls—it also plays a role when recording videos, live streaming, or taking voice notes. While older devices used to get by with just two microphones, some newer models now feature three or even four. So, what’s the point of all these extra mics? Many of them help reduce background noise by capturing ambient sounds, for instance. Have you noticed these advancements in microphone technology lately?

Typical, right? Recently, I was grinding online matches in CS:GO with a friend, and his phone—an Xiaomi Redmi Note 10 Pro—had a pretty mediocre mic. Like, headphones were fine, but when we used the speaker, there was constant muffling and echo. So I just pulled out my old Redmi Note 8 as a second mic, and yeah, it had two mics set up way better. Way easier to talk in voice chat, no need to repeat every other sentence. That’s when I realized manufacturers aren’t just slapping extra mics on for no reason—they’re trying to improve call quality or at least stop voice notes from getting garbled ten times over. Now, when I’m picking out a new phone for my brother, the first thing I check in the specs is whether it’s got three or four mics.

I've seen the logic behind increasing the number of microphones in phones for years while working with IoT devices. There's this thing that made me think, "Wow, this is really necessary": how background noise is eliminated when you're on a call. For example, in the office, five minutes into work, there's always a chance the doorbell rings, and my phone's three microphones kick in. One captures your voice, the other two pick up that "ding-dong" sound and relay it to the software. Ultimately, your voice comes through clearly to the other end. Similarly, when recording videos, I noticed that with a phone equipped with four microphones, even on windy days, my voice comes out clean. With my old phone that only had two microphones, background hum made my voice almost inaudible. If you're someone who constantly records videos outdoors, I highly recommend getting a device like this, bro. There are sound enhancement options in both paid and free apps, but hardware solutions always perform better.

Switched to a quad mic and now the audio in my videos is so crisp, bro. Used to deal with all that background noise, but now it sounds almost studio-quality, even when I'm texting.
