What should I look for in a 1080p monitor besides resolution? How important are factors like refresh rate, panel type (IPS/VA/TN), and color accuracy? Which features stand out for gaming and graphic work?

When buying a 1080p monitor, the most important thing is your intended use. If you're primarily gaming, refresh rate and panel type come into play. For example, for FPS gamers like me, a 144Hz+ refresh rate is a must—it makes movements look much smoother. When I say panel type, if color accuracy is important to you (like if you're doing graphic design), you should go for an IPS panel, as it displays colors much more accurately. VA panels have deeper blacks but can have color shifts, while TN panels have great refresh rates and response times but terrible color quality. From what I understand, you'll be using it for both gaming and graphic work. My recommendation would be a monitor with around 165Hz refresh rate and an IPS panel, so you get good results in both gaming and design tasks. For color accuracy, aim for at least 95% sRGB coverage; even better if it has 100% sRGB or Adobe RGB. For example, I got the ASUS TUF VG27AQ1A, and with its 165Hz refresh rate and IPS panel, it's perfect for me.

1080p monitors actually make a lot more sense in terms of price-to-performance compared to 1440p monitors. For example, I’ve been gaming on a 1080p monitor with my Steam Deck, and honestly, this resolution never gets old—it’s a solid standard for both PC and console gaming. **Don’t settle for just 60Hz**, even at 1080p there are now plenty of 120Hz+ options. Take the **Acer Nitro 27” 1080p 165Hz IPS**, for instance—you get smooth gameplay and vibrant colors all in one. When it comes to panel types, **VA panels** deliver better blacks in dark scenes, but their viewing angles are weak. **IPS panels**, on the other hand, offer great color accuracy and wide viewing angles, making them ideal for both graphic work and general use. If I were you, I’d first go for an **IPS panel with high color accuracy** for graphic work, and then look at the refresh rate. For gaming, switching to a VA panel to boost black depth might make sense, but for the average user, **IPS is just unbeatable**, bro.

When I decided to get more serious about PC gaming last year, buddy, I was really confused about choosing a 1080p monitor. Back then, I was considering a 24-inch IPS panel, but then I heard VA has better contrast and all that, so it was really confusing. In the end, the model I bought had 144Hz and IPS, and honestly, I haven't regretted it so far. In games, the higher the refresh rate, the smoother the gameplay—when I switched from 60Hz to 144Hz, I literally saved a clutch in Counter-Strike 😅 Even though I don’t use a graphics editor, I checked the color accuracy, and IPS’s colors being more accurate than VA didn’t bother me, at least in games. VA has better black depth, but I kept seeing ghosting issues, so I went with IPS. If you're into graphics work, make sure to calibrate your monitor—when I first got mine, I forgot to calibrate the monitor profile, and the colors were a bit washed out, so I had to put in some effort to fix it.

Thanks for starting the thread! Honestly, I think the most about refresh rate because the difference when upgrading from 60Hz to 144Hz is insane.

When buying a 1080p monitor, I always focus on the refresh rate, bro, especially if it's for gaming. Like, 60Hz is standard, but when you go up to 144Hz, the movements feel so smooth—it really takes the game to another level. My old monitor was 60Hz, and the difference with the new one was instant, I swear. Panel type is also super important, especially for color-focused work. I got an IPS panel recently, and the colors were spot-on when editing photos. VA is great for dark tones, but it can have a bit more motion blur. For color accuracy, there are standards, especially in professional work—you need sRGB/90%+ or Adobe RGB coverage. My monitor has 99% sRGB, so I never had any color shifts while working on graphics. You gotta decide based on your needs—refresh rate and response time for gaming, panel type and color accuracy for graphics. From my experience, even at 1080p, a 144Hz + IPS combo offers the best balance.
