Hey everyone, I'm thinking about getting a new monitor and keep coming across the term '1080p'. What does that actually mean exactly? Is it still up-to-date or already outdated? I'd like to know how the resolution works and what advantages and disadvantages it has compared to higher resolutions. Maybe you can also give me some tips on which games or applications 1080p is still worth it for.

1080p (Full HD) is still a solid choice, especially in the budget range, and has clear advantages over higher resolutions like 1440p or 4K if you prioritize performance over maximum sharpness. For example, compared to 1440p—which often requires 50–100% more pixels—1080p runs much smoother on mid-range GPUs like an RTX 3060 or RX 6700 XT, particularly in demanding games (e.g., *Cyberpunk 2077* with ray tracing) or competitive titles like *Valorant*, *CS2*, or *Fortnite*, where high FPS is the key advantage. Outside of gaming, 1080p is also perfectly adequate for office work, streaming, or older systems (e.g., laptops with integrated graphics). However, 1080p has its limits: On large screens from 24 inches (especially 27 inches and above), the pixel density looks less sharp compared to QHD/4K, and modern features like adaptive sync (G-Sync/FreeSync) or high refresh rates (144Hz+) are just as important as pure resolution. So, if you want a future-proof investment and have a strong GPU (e.g., RTX 4070+), 1440p+ might be the better choice—but for beginners or a pure gaming setup without FPS compromises, 1080p remains an unbeatable classic. For example, a 24-inch 1080p 144Hz monitor like the *ASUS TUF VG249Q* costs less than €200 and delivers top performance, while a 27-inch 1440p 165Hz model like the *AOC Q27G2S* is sharper but also more expensive. Bottom line: In 2024, 1080p is still worth it if you value smooth gaming, budget-friendliness, or compact systems.
