A 1080p monitor typically refers to a display with a resolution of 1920x1080 pixels, commonly found in budget-friendly and mid-range monitors. It's been a standard for years, but is it still sufficient for modern use? Good for basic tasks, casual gaming, and media consumption, but high-refresh-rate or larger screens might need higher resolutions. How do you folks feel about 1080p in 2024—still a solid choice or time to upgrade?
Is 1080p monitor resolution enough in 2024?

Well, about 4-5 years ago, I was in a similar situation. Back then, my friend and I wanted to buy a monitor for our buddy, with a budget of around $500-$600. I thought, "1080p is standard, even 60Hz is enough for most things," so we went for a 24" 1080p 75Hz monitor. Later, we realized that games like RDR2 and Cyberpunk were struggling to hit 40-50 FPS on high settings at 1080p.
I still think 1080p is fine if:
- The monitor is between 24-27"
- You're only playing single-player games or not into competitive titles (like LoL, Valorant, etc.)
- Your GPU is mid-range (e.g., GTX 1660, RTX 3060, etc.)
But if you want features like 144Hz+ or HDR, then I'd recommend going for 1440p instead. The only downside is that it’ll cost a bit more.
