What do you prioritize when buying a 1440p monitor?

For me, response time is a must at 1440p—especially if you're playing fast-paced games like Apex. I used to have a 60Hz monitor with a 5ms response time, and the ghosting was brutal in fights. Switched to a 165Hz with 1ms GTG, and the difference in tracking shots was night and day. Unless you're doing heavy color work, resolution smoothness > visual fidelity in my book.
That said, don’t go overboard on 24-inch unless you're sitting super close. I tried a 27" 1440p once, and the pixels were too noticeable up close—ended up returning it. Stick to 25"–27" for a sweet spot. Response time wins for gaming, but don’t ignore panel type (IPS > VA for colors and viewing angles). And save your wallet—144Hz at 1440p won’t break your bank like 4K tech.
Hey, I was also looking into 1440p monitors for gaming and it got me wondering—if you've never tried either before, would an IPS panel be more worth it for the colors, or just go straight for a VA for the contrast and blacks?
I focus on resolution and not having to force AA all the time so it doesn’t look like a potato, but 1440p without a quality panel is the same as a toasted 1080p. A 144Hz IPS with good brightness (at least 350 nits if you want to use it in bright conditions) and 98% DCI-P3 gives you the winning combo so you won’t regret it in a year; 8-bit + FRC no longer annoys like it used to on modern monitors.
That said, size depends on your desk and use: if you game or render, 27" is better because at 32" Windows 11 scaling isn’t perfect and PPI drops. For pure office/movies, a 32" QHD with HDR400 is tempting, but you’ll miss pixels when gaming. Response times: as long as it’s not worse than 5ms GTG black-to-black, you won’t notice ghosting; I’ve seen monitors with 1ms "marketing" that actually have 4-5ms real and you can tell. The critical part is always panel uniformity and overdrive firmware—bad firmware can ruin your day.
Do you recommend the MSI G272QPF if fast response time and high refresh rate are important? Do you have any experience with color accuracy and screen size specifically?
So, above all, I look at the panel (IPS is better than TN for colors and viewing angles) and that it has a 1ms (or lower) response time for gaming. Are you looking for something for gaming or graphic design?
