I'm planning a new indie game project and trying to decide which 1440p monitor to go for. What's more important to you? 1️⃣ High refresh rate (≥144Hz) for smooth gameplay 2️⃣ Excellent color and contrast performance for asset creation 3️⃣ Ergonomic design and price-to-performance ratio Please vote and briefly explain why you prioritize this. How does it affect your workflow?

For my indie projects, color and contrast accuracy come first. A monitor with IPS panel technology and good sRGB or Adobe RGB coverage (at least 99% sRGB, preferably 100% Adobe RGB) makes all the difference when creating sprites, UI elements, and textures. Models like the Dell U2720Q or the LG 27GN950 not only deliver excellent color reproduction but also stable 144Hz at 1440p, so gameplay testing stays smooth. Of course, I also pay attention to ergonomic features: adjustable stand, tilt and swivel functions, and a matte surface to minimize reflections. The price-to-performance ratio is still reasonable because with a single monitor, you can cover both development and play tasks—saving you the hassle of buying separate displays for color accuracy and performance later on.

I go for the high refresh rate (≥144 Hz) because otherwise, I’d fall asleep with every FPS drop while debugging, and my old laptop groans at the flicker 😅. Plus, smooth gameplay makes spotting bugs easier, even if my color vision is still stuck on elementary-school chalk 🎨.

My experience has shown that balanced color and contrast behavior is more important for asset creation than the highest refresh rate. I've been using a Dell U2720Q (IPS, 144 Hz, 99% sRGB + 95% Adobe RGB coverage) for over two years and particularly appreciate the color-accurate display, which significantly simplifies texture painting and UI design. While the 144 Hz refresh rate is nice for gameplay testing, 60–75 Hz is perfectly adequate for actual development, where precise colors and stable image quality are more important. Therefore, when selecting a 1440p monitor for indie game development, I would prioritize the panel (IPS or even better Mini-LED) and color coverage, while also considering ergonomic features (height-adjustable, tiltable, blue light filter). This offers a good price-to-performance ratio because you're not paying extra for unnecessarily high refresh rates—instead, you're investing in more precise color reproduction, which noticeably speeds up your workflow.
