What should you focus on when choosing a 4K monitor? How do you balance color accuracy, refresh rate, and panel type (IPS vs. VA vs. OLED)? While gaming and content creation have different needs, what’s a general approach to getting the best performance from a monitor? Would love to hear your thoughts!

When buying a 4K monitor, it's important to balance panel type and refresh rate, just like when purchasing a TV. For example, OLED panels offer excellent blacks and color contrast, not far behind IPS, but the burn-in risk shouldn't be overlooked during long marathon sessions. For gaming, VA panels provide dynamic contrast for smoother motion, while IPS offers better color accuracy and wider viewing angles—crucial for my 2D game development work where I need colors to stay true.
From another perspective, if you encounter synchronization technologies like AMD FreeSync Premium or NVIDIA G-Sync, they minimize issues like screen tearing and ghosting in videos or games. Especially at 4K resolution, where GPU workload increases, these technologies smooth out rendering glitches and reduce eye strain. My preference for an IPS panel that supports FreeSync 2 is mainly for this reason—my eyes feel less fatigued!
