What factors are important when buying a 4K monitor? How much do features like color accuracy, refresh rate, panel type (IPS/VA/TN), or HDMI 2.1 support matter? I plan to use it for both FPS gaming and color-focused tasks. Which features should I prioritize?

When I was on the hunt for a 4K monitor last year, I was in the exact same boat as you are now. I wanted smooth gaming performance along with accurate colors, so I started with an IPS panel—but my first try left me disappointed. When I got the Hyte Y70 Touch, I realized the blacks in games weren’t as deep as I hoped, and the color transitions weren’t as smooth as I expected. It wasn’t until later that I truly understood the importance of panel quality and calibration. Everything changed when I switched to the LG 27GR95QE-B. Thanks to HDMI 2.1, my PS5 performed exactly as it should, and the 144Hz refresh rate delivered buttery-smooth FPS gameplay. For color-sensitive work, calibration gave me a wide gamma and saturation range, producing professional-level results. My advice? Make sure your monitor supports both the right panel type *and* the right connectivity. IPS is still one of the best for color accuracy, but VA panels can give you deeper blacks.
