Guys, I'm about to get a new 4K monitor, but panel types, refresh rates, and color accuracy are really confusing me. Especially when it comes to HDR-supported models, what should I look for? What do you guys focus on for eye-friendly lighting settings for a comfortable experience? Besides 60Hz, which refresh rates make sense? Would love to hear your recommendations 👀

The three most common panel types you'll come across are IPS, VA, and TN. IPS is the most popular choice thanks to its color accuracy and wide viewing angles, while VA offers a higher contrast ratio but can be prone to ghosting. TN panels lead in speed, but their color range and viewing angles usually make them a secondary choice for gamers. If you're into graphic design or photo editing—anything that demands precise colors—IPS is the way to go. If gaming is your main focus, you can afford to sacrifice a bit of color fidelity. While 4K at 60Hz seems standard, for competitive gaming, panels with 120Hz to 144Hz refresh rates make a lot of sense. They smooth out motion and significantly reduce input lag. As for HDR, 4K monitors with HDR400 are pretty basic; if you want truly deep, vibrant colors, look for models with HDR600 or HDR1000 support. Backlight blooming used to be a major issue with HDR, but newer panels have largely fixed that problem. To reduce eye strain, a properly calibrated monitor is key, but adding blue light filters and software like f.lux (or similar "bay mode" tools) helps a lot. At the studio where I work, we even have color calibration setups for designers, and when using HDR modes, it's important to optimize your layout settings too. Lastly, don’t get too hung up on brands—pick the model that best fits your budget and needs, and you’ll get the best experience.

Well, when talking about 4K, bro, go for IPS or OLED panels—colors come out way more vibrant. For HDR, at least look for models with DisplayHDR 400 support, and avoid those with backlight bleed or light leakage. Don’t settle for 60Hz, go for 120Hz+ in my opinion—smoothness is everything now 🔥
