Bro, I got a 27-inch 4K monitor last month, and with 384 PPI and 95% DCI-P3 color gamut, the difference in photo editing was immediate—HDR10 really made the highlights pop like real life. Went with DisplayPort 1.4 since it handles 144Hz 4K flawlessly, while HDMI 2.0 is stuck at 60Hz, which makes a huge difference in gaming. Scaling from 1080p is a bit tricky, but the high DPI cuts down eye strain. For both gaming and professional workflows, a 27-30 inch, 144Hz, DP-supported 4K setup is the sweet spot.

At 27 inches in the 4K world, you're looking at around 163 PPI, which is a noticeable jump over 1440p (about 109 PPI) and definitely makes textures feel sharper in games like Half-Life: Alyx—especially when you're squinting at distant objects. The color gamut matters just as much: a panel that covers 95-100% of DCI-P3 will actually show the wider range of reds and greens that HDR content promises, and the boost is visible not only in cut-scenes but also in bright-to-dark transitions when you enable HDR in modern titles. If the monitor only hits sRGB, HDR looks washed out, and you're basically paying for the "marketing tag" without the visual payoff. On the connectivity side, DisplayPort 1.4a has enough headroom for 4K @ 144 Hz with full 10-bit color, while HDMI 2.0 tops out at 4K @ 60 Hz (or 4K @ 120 Hz with 8-bit color). That bandwidth gap shows up as a real limitation if you want high-refresh competitive play—switching to DP solves it without sacrificing HDR.
