I've been using the Logitech G502 Hero for a long time, both in games and at the office. I tried high‑button models at first, but eventually I switched to a minimalist mouse with 6–8 buttons. The reason is simple: when I have to keep my hand moving around constantly, extra buttons take up space and distract me, making accidental presses harder to avoid. Even when I hold the mouse in my palm, I can keep full control without moving my wrist much, which is a huge comfort during long sessions.
But I think the real answer lies in the intended use. If you only play FPS or MOBA games, a 6–8 button model is enough. However, if you play MMORPGs or simulation games, programmable buttons can really be a lifesaver. My advice: think it through—determine how many buttons you actually need, then keep it to the minimum. Too many buttons can ruin the mouse’s ergonomics, which only ends up hurting performance.
