I'm thinking about getting a new mousepad, but I'm not sure: fabric or hard surface, which is actually more practical? What are the pros and cons of each? Do you need something specific for gaming, or is standard enough? What about durability and maintenance?
Cloth vs. Hard mousepad – which one is worth more?

At hard mousepads, you definitely get better precision, especially when gaming with low DPI. I personally use a Razer Strider as a hard pad because the glide in FPS titles just convinces me—no slipping, and the mouse responds to the millimeter. However, in very dry air or with sweaty hands, it can slip a bit if there's no good coating on it.
Fabric mousepads, on the other hand, are more comfortable for long sessions and gentler on the mouse surface. My SteelSeries QcK has a few scuffs after 1.5 years of heavy use, but the glide is still top-notch. For standard office work, either works, but if you value response speed, I'd go for a hard pad. Fabric pads are easier to clean (machine washable), but hard pads usually just need a damp cloth.
