So, how does case airflow actually impact temperatures? I know fans help, but does just pointing them "somewhere" make a difference? Or is precise intake/exhaust placement the real game-changer? Got a fresh build coming up and want to get the basics right.

Airflow’s role in cooling is actually pretty straightforward: bring in cool air and expel hot air as quickly as possible. But it’s not so much *where* you’re directing the air—it’s *how* you’re directing it that makes all the difference. For example, if cold air isn’t blowing directly onto the CPU/GPU, those areas can overheat. When I built my PC the first time, I spread the fans out "for aesthetics," only to find the CPU hitting 85°C while the GPU stayed at 70°C. After rearranging the fans (intakes at the front and bottom, exhausts at the top and rear), temps dropped by about 20°C across the board. The golden rule: intake fans should blast cool air straight at the CPU/GPU coolers, while exhausts should focus on flushing hot air out as fast as possible.

How many airflow paths do I actually need, and how should I best distribute them? Is it enough to just install fans anywhere, or should I pay more attention to that?

Think of your case like a room and fans as AC units—random placement just cools spots while smart airflow (like AC vents) evenly lowers temps across the whole area.
