My PC with an RTX 4090 has tested several demanding titles (Cyberpunk 2077, Red Dead Redemption 2, and Hogwarts Legacy) using DLSS 3 and enabling ray tracing at "Ultra" quality. On average, FPS dropped between 30% and 45% compared to the non-ray tracing setup, though the exact difference heavily depends on the engine and scene—areas with many reflections and dynamic shadows can lose up to 50% performance. To minimize the hit without sacrificing too much visual quality, I usually combine ray tracing with DLSS (preferably "Quality" or "Balanced" settings) and lower the reflection effect resolution to "Medium" in the graphics settings. I also disable ray-traced shadows in some games where the visual improvement is less noticeable. In titles that support "Ray-Traced Ambient Occlusion" (RTAO) in low mode, the impact is typically smaller than enabling full global illumination. In short, the key is to use DLSS or FSR and tweak ray tracing settings granularly—this way, I keep a smooth experience above 60 fps in most games.
