Long time no see, but I've been wondering about something that's been bugging me: how much does ray tracing actually tank graphics performance? Is it just a fancy effect, or does it genuinely improve image quality in a noticeable way? What I'm most curious about with this tech is what to look out for in real-time applications. Do you think investing in ray tracing is worth it these days?

Ray tracing does take a serious toll on performance, but the results are far from ordinary lighting effects. In real-time applications, what I pay the most attention to is the GPU’s ray-tracing calculation time and how many light sources are active in my own game. Is it worth it? Well, if your target system is a 3060 Ti or better, then yeah, it makes sense. Otherwise, I’m always worried about whether I should wait it out for GPUs to get cheaper.
