Is the RTX 40 series really that good at ray tracing?

Guys, I've been wondering about the ray tracing performance of the newly released next-gen graphics card series. I'm curious about how realistic the results are on both desktop and in games. Do you think the new architecture has made significant progress in this area? Is the FPS loss too much, or have the new generation render processors lightened the load to make it more playable? As someone who really loves light effects, I'm wondering how satisfying this is in practice.

Man, I've personally seen how much the RTX 40 series ups the ante in ray tracing. My buddy upgraded to a 4080 and played Cyberpunk 2077 on Enable settings, and it was so smooth it was almost matching the FPS of flat shadows. And if you're rocking a 4090, The Witcher 3's next-gen update runs at 80-90 FPS with lighting maxed out. Back in the old days (like with a 3080), turning on RTX was like watching a dead sheep—utterly unplayable. But with the 40 series, this tech is actually tolerable now. Of course, it depends on the game, bro. For upcoming titles like Alan Wake 2, my tests with RTX Overdrive mode kept it around 60 FPS even in 4K. Yeah, you take a hit in FPS, but with third-gen RT Cores and the new shader architecture, the performance loss is now around 30-40%, way better than the 70% hit you'd take on the 20 series. So if you're into ray tracing, the RTX 40 series finally makes it more than just "eye candy"—it's actually enjoyable now.

RTX 40 series really stands out in ray tracing performance compared to AMD's RDNA 3 series, bro. Like, RDNA 3 does support ray tracing, but the performance hit is pretty brutal. With RTX 40 series, though, thanks to the new DLSS 3 and 4th-gen Tensor Cores, ray tracing is almost as smooth as regular rendering. I personally played Metro Exodus Enhanced Edition on an RTX 4070 with ray tracing on high and DLSS in Quality mode, hitting 60+ FPS last month. And take the RTX 4090, for example—it handles Cyberpunk 2077’s "Overdrive Mode" ray tracing at 60+ FPS without breaking a sweat. When I compare it to AMD’s RDNA 3, the RTX 4090 actually delivers about 30% better performance in path tracing mode. So yeah, ray tracing isn’t just a visual extra anymore—it’s basically standard now, though you can’t ignore the price difference either.
