In recent years, as mobile device performance has improved, heat management has remained a hot topic. While passive cooling (e.g., heat pipes) is simple and reliable, active cooling (e.g., mini fans) promises higher performance. However, factors like noise and power consumption also come into play. In your opinion, which approach makes more sense for cooling mobile devices? Do you think passive cooling is sufficient, or do the advantages of active cooling outweigh the drawbacks?

A few years back, I had a Razer Blade 15 with one of the first RTX 2070 models—an absolute beast for gaming. At first, it ran purely on passive cooling underneath, but after a few months with demanding titles like Cyberpunk 2077, the temperature quickly shot up to 90°C. The passive heatsink got scorching hot, and even with cooling pads underneath, it was no longer viable for extended gaming sessions. So, I switched to active cooling: an external USB fan at first, and later upgrading to a model with a built-in high-performance fan restored both quiet operation and, more importantly, performance. Sure, it’s a bit louder, and the battery takes a hit, but since then, even after three years, it’s still running smoothly—no throttling or heat-induced shutdowns. For pure office use, passive cooling might suffice, but if you want real power, you’ll hardly get around active cooling.

Do you really think passive cooling is enough?... 😅 I can't even put my PC in the living room, people probably compare my CPU to a microphone 😂 Those mini fans you call active cooling make noise like bulls, why would I want the neighbors to hear it in the morning? 😅
