Should I go for an M.2 SATA or stick with a traditional 2.5" SATA SSD? Which one shows a more noticeable performance difference without compromising ease of installation?
I prefer M.2 SATA because last year, when I built a mini-ITX system, it saved me from dealing with cables. Before that, I had used a standard SATA SSD, but in such a small case, managing power and data cables was a bit annoying. I can't forget how simple it was to just screw in one screw when installing the M.2 SATA and then power up the system.
Even though I don't like the price difference, I'll stick with this setup as long as I don't need to replace the storage unit. Since I don't obsess over the price-performance balance too much, I've developed a soft spot for M.2 SATA.
For systems with older hardware or budget-focused builds, the classic SATA SSD is often the most sensible choice—simply because it can be installed in almost any motherboard with a free port and offers an extremely cost-effective price-to-performance ratio, with prices starting at €50-80 for 1TB.
