SATA SSDs use the same technology as traditional SSDs but rely on the SATA interface to transfer data. Unlike HDDs, they have no moving parts, making them faster and more durable. So, how much performance do they offer with the SATA III standard? They typically average around 550 MB/s read/write speeds, but they can be overshadowed by PCIe-based SSDs. What do you think—is this older technology still relevant for the future?

Even though SATA III's 550 MB/s speed lags behind newer PCIe SSDs, isn't it still appealing in terms of cost? For example, how much does a 500GB SATA SSD cost these days?

Compared to NVMe SSDs, SATA SSDs feel outdated. For example, PCIe 4.0 NVMe drives can reach speeds of up to 7000 MB/s, while SATA III tops out at just 550 MB/s. If raw speed is a must, I’d go with NVMe—despite the price difference.
