In the KPSS, with 120 questions to be answered in 135 minutes, time management is crucial. So, how do you develop a systematic speed-reading strategy? Is "scanning" more effective for understanding the text in the first pass, or is "skimming" better for catching key words? What techniques should you use to answer more questions in the same amount of time?

Let's see how time gets stolen in KPS, bro. A lot of you have that “I’ll just read it and I’ll get it” reflex, cramming 20 lines of questions into 30 seconds. But the things we lose the most are those “middle sentences” that can’t keep up with both speed and depth of understanding. For example, the third sentence of a ten‑line paragraph in AYT biology— even if it’s the info‑dense one— you only run into it on the fifth question. If you look at my side, they use something called a “key‑sentence scan” on the first pass: the first line, the last line, spots where connectors like “therefore,” “because,” etc., appear at the end of each item. Rarely do they actually go into the text and read the first paragraph, because the generalizations there boost the capture rate of the most critical point up to about 75%. So what about that “skimming” technique you call, where the eye jumps to the middle of the text? Honestly, it’s like rowing in circles, bro. If you haven’t read up to that point, you can’t fully grasp the sentence where that word appears. In my strategy, skimming is only to figure out which block the question belongs to. After that there’s a simple mechanism called “scan the first/last three words of the paragraph to catch the main idea.” In trials you’re 10‑15 % faster, but if comprehension depth suffers seriously you drop the technique. What KPS expects from you isn’t to find the right answer quickly, but to understand it quickly and not waste time. Otherwise you’ll solve 60 out of 120 questions and ignore the rest.
