Assalamu alaykum everyone! 👋 These days, university registrations have started in many places, and apparently, there's been a significant increase in YKS placements at BARÜ (Bülent Ecevit University). Many departments have filled their quotas, and some have even seen a surge in demand! 🤯 But of course, not everywhere is the same story; in some departments, the situation is quite the opposite... There are programs called 'ghost departments' that attract zero students. 😅 What do you think could be the reason for this? Or should we research departments thoroughly before making our choices? If any of you are in the registration process like me, share your experiences! Did anyone face any issues? Or is everything going smoothly? 🗣️ Let’s talk!

Well, there are a few key reasons for this situation, bro. I think the most important one is that during the preference period, students are no longer just looking at scores and rankings—they're also considering what the department promises for the future. At BARÜ, the surge in popularity for engineering and medical faculties is largely due to strong post-graduation employment opportunities. For example, departments like computer engineering or industrial engineering are in demand because they align with Turkey’s tech and industrial policies and offer high internship/job opportunities in the industrial zone. Similarly, health departments like pharmacy or nursing gained popularity after the pandemic. But in the opposite case—so-called "ghost departments"—the situation is usually like this: either the department’s content doesn’t appeal to students, future job prospects are weak, or the school fails to promote the program enough, keeping its visibility low. For instance, programs like history or philosophy at BARÜ have become less preferred because many young people can’t answer the question, "What will I do after graduating?" In short, when making your choices, you *have* to research the department’s graduate profile, course content, and internship/job opportunities—though BARÜ’s placement data and student reviews do make this a bit easier. I should also mention accessibility because another reason for BARÜ’s increased enrollments is that Zonguldak has become much more accessible. In the past, students who wanted to come here struggled with transportation and accommodation, but now the city is far more reachable. If you’re planning to enroll, make sure to research rental housing and transportation options in Zonguldak beforehand—otherwise, even if you get placed at BARÜ, you might face difficulties during the registration process.
