Bro, I’ve been through a similar period, man. By the end of 2021 my pension went up by 30%, from 3,000 TL to 3,900 TL. Honestly, inflation was hitting the 80% mark back then, so I tried to be happy about the “raise,” but when I saw the grocery prices I kept getting disappointed. Especially looking at meat and yogurt prices, the moment I thought “yeah, I’m good now,” almost all my money was disappearing at the market.
In my opinion this system gives retirees a little breathing room, but it’s never enough. I’m also aware that the government isn’t fully synchronized with inflation. Lately, while inflation is hovering around 40%, pension hikes stay around 20‑30%. So either their plan is to bring inflation down or they’re just cutting from our pockets. Who knows, if the situation doesn’t change with the next increase in five months, we’ll still be struggling to “make ends meet.”
