Hey buddy, the news in Bloomberght yesterday mentioned that household inflation expectations have increased. So, it seems like we're going to start feeling the price hikes even more in the future. How serious do you think this is? Is it really going to put more strain on our budgets? What do you think? 🤔

Honestly, as Bloomberg also emphasized, this rise in household inflation expectations is a serious signal. Why? Because consumer expectations directly affect pricing behavior. If people start believing inflation will rise, firms can raise their prices more aggressively due to predictability, and consumers may start stockpiling. When that combines with exchange rates and imported input costs, budget pressure intensifies. Indeed, the current data (despite the 78.61% inflation in May according to TÜİK) show a sharp jump in expectations for April and May. In other words, the Consumer Confidence Index’s “price increase likelihood in the next 12 months” rose above 70%. That simply means citizens will have to tighten their budgets even more, figuring out where to spend and how much they can save. In the short term, budgets are already barely hanging on, but this expectation surge can create a domino effect on prices. For example, price hikes in basic items like food and fuel already strain budgets, and if pricing behavior changes, the impact could go even further. So yes, it’s a serious issue that the government needs to curb with monetary policy.
