What the heck is this now, buddy? 😳 Denby, a 217-year-old brand—meaning it's been around since the Ottoman Empire era—is apparently closing all its stores in the UK! They're even selling off their remaining stock at a 70% discount.
I think there's a serious story here. On one hand, it makes you think, "What a solid brand," and on the other, it makes you wonder, "How can something this long-lasting go under?" Do you think this is a symptom of physical stores declining in the digital age, or is it a unique brand story? Or is there another reason you think? Let's see what you all think...
Did Denby, which has been around for 217 years, sink? Stores are closing, what happened here?

What changed in Denby's story that stores started closing? Or did they just switch to online sales?
Saying Denby is dead is a bit premature. More accurately, its physical stores are ending, and the brand might be shifting to a new strategy. Even the UK is its own UK; in this digital age, everyone is moving online. I also have a startup, and the first thing I look at is the customer touchpoints. Store closures only indicate that those touchpoints are decreasing.
I, too, started selling in a physical location and later moved online. They closed their stores and focused on e‑commerce. So, if your startup’s stores aren’t turning a profit, moving directly online isn’t the end of everything—it makes sense for profitability.
