While encryption and 2FA alone are sufficient, tokenization further reduces risks like phishing and data breaches by ensuring card details aren’t transmitted directly.
In my experience, I always use tokenization and two-factor authentication (2FA) together to prevent card details used for payments from leaking. Specifically, instead of entering credit card details directly when making purchases on sites like Amazon or Rakuten, I use tokenized payment services like Apple Pay or Google Pay, and set up 2FA on my accounts via SMS or an authenticator app. This way, even if the site gets hacked, the actual card number won’t leak, and unauthorized use isn’t possible without the authentication code. Additionally, using a password manager to keep strong, unique passwords makes you more resistant to phishing attacks. Ultimately, the most important thing is to consistently combine tokenized payment methods with two-factor authentication.
