Currently, hybrid and electric cars are competing for market share, but their operating principles differ. What do you think are the main factors that make a hybrid more attractive than an electric vehicle, considering efficiency, range, and charging infrastructure? I’d love to hear your opinions and experiences.

Hybrids are great because they use both gasoline and electricity, so you can drive long distances or in areas without good charging infrastructure without worrying. I use a hybrid for my commute and love that I don’t have to stress about the battery dying—it really extends my range.

Bro, hybrid cars still play a "bridge" role and cover the range limitations of electric vehicles (EVs), especially in areas lacking infrastructure. Honestly, the biggest advantage of a hybrid is that the engine can use two different energy sources simultaneously or alternately; the electric motor kicks in at low speeds, while the internal combustion engine takes over at high revs. This way, you can achieve 30-40% less fuel consumption in stop-and-go city traffic, with models like the Toyota Prius reporting an average consumption of 4.4 L/100km. I think the most obvious difference is in range. Hybrids almost eliminate "range anxiety"; you don’t have to worry about finding a charging station—just pull into a gas station and refuel easily. While 2023-2024 hybrid models offer a total range of around 600-800 km, a single charge in an EV usually gets you about 350-450 km. That’s a huge comfort for long-distance travelers. Hybrids also have an infrastructure advantage. Charging stations are still concentrated in city centers, but they’re scarce in rural and remote areas. Since gas stations are already widespread, hybrids don’t require additional investment. As of 2022, Europe had over 140,000 public charging points, but this number is still low in less populated areas outside cities—hybrids fill that gap perfectly. Of course, as battery costs drop and charging networks expand in the future, EVs will become more appealing. But for now, hybrids offer a balanced option in terms of cost, range, and infrastructure—plus, analyzing this transition in the startup ecosystem could create new business models and opportunities.
