I wonder, do VPNs really enhance security, or do they have both advantages and disadvantages? For example, they help with privacy and bypassing geo-restrictions, but do they sacrifice performance? In your opinion, in which situations is it reasonable to use them? Of course, different scenarios should also be considered.
What are the pros and cons of using a VPN?

Man, I use VPNs to keep my startup's marketing efforts alive, bro. Once, I had a meeting with a potential investor in the Netherlands while I was in Turkey—I wanted to show them ads on YouTube and stuff. Before using a VPN, I kept getting that "This content isn't available in your region" error. That’s when I realized geo-restrictions are one of the biggest headaches for startups. So, I signed up for NordVPN, changed my location, and boom—I could watch YouTube like normal. After that meeting, I had to use a VPN to share my startup’s webinar recordings so participants from different countries could watch them.
But performance-wise? Man, it can be a pain. There were times when my internet was blazing fast, but during video calls, my connection would lag because of the VPN’s slowdown. Like, during a Zoom meeting, even my team’s recordings came out pixelated because of it. I had to test four or five VPNs before I found the one that gave the best performance. So yeah, VPNs are great, but you gotta balance the performance loss. Now I only use them for critical stuff—otherwise, I turn them off for regular sessions.
