Big data is transforming how businesses and public institutions make decisions, but this shift raises many questions. On one hand, the ability to analyze massive volumes of data helps identify precise trends and optimize processes. On the other, risks like algorithmic bias, privacy violations, and lack of transparency can undermine the legitimacy of decisions. In your view, what ethical limits should be imposed before mass adoption of these technologies? What governance or control mechanisms do you recommend to ensure responsible use of big data?

Last year, in the project I worked on, we used large datasets to analyze customer behavior patterns and automated the decision support system. Initially, the model's 95% accuracy thrilled us, but during a testing phase, we noticed that results were systematically lower for a specific demographic group. Upon investigating, we realized that this group was underrepresented in the data collection phase, and the model reflected this deficiency as a "bias." This wasn't just a technical issue but also raised ethical concerns, as incorrect decisions could disadvantage certain segments of the population. After this incident, we added an "ethical oversight committee" to the project, implemented anonymization and data minimization rules to monitor data entry, and increased transparency by using Explainable AI (XAI) tools that could explain the model's decisions. Although the model's performance dropped slightly, we ensured that decisions were fair and traceable. This experience once again showed me that when making decisions with big data, diversity in data, transparent explanation mechanisms, and independent oversight units are crucial. Honestly, without a governance framework that combines ethical boundaries and technical oversight, big data projects remain in a risky area.
