I'm trying to build a PC with a budget of 3000-5000 TL, aiming to use it for both gaming and as a solid office machine, but I'm stuck on where to start. Should I begin with the CPU/motherboard combo or prioritize the GPU? Some friends argue that investing in a graphics card is the better choice, while others claim that a good CPU will future-proof the build. What’s your take? That said, I can’t go overboard with the budget, so I want something that will last at least 2-3 years. How would you balance this?

First, when thinking about the most logical balance between CPU and GPU within your budget, I’m reminded of how a thermostat works. For example, a thermostat measures room temperature and automatically adjusts the heater/cooler to maintain balance. Your PC works similarly: the CPU manages system stability, efficiency, and future demands as the "base heat" (processing load) increases under heavy tasks. The GPU, on the other hand, kicks in when needed—especially in gaming or graphics-intensive workloads. Just like a thermostat, you can balance them by letting the CPU handle the "base load" while the GPU activates only when full performance is required. For example, with a 4000 TL budget, start by focusing on the CPU. A solid mid-range CPU like the AMD Ryzen 5 5600 or Intel Core i5-12400F, paired with an affordable B550/H670 motherboard, is a great foundation. Then allocate the remaining budget to the GPU—something like an RX 6600 or RTX 3060 will keep your system running smoothly for 2-3 years. Prioritize the CPU now to avoid bottlenecks in future games or applications, and upgrade the GPU later as needed. In my opinion, it’s better to invest in the CPU first since it forms the backbone of your system.

I went through the same struggle last year, buddy—had a budget of 4000 TL and needed a PC that could handle both gaming and office work. I was torn between splurging on a CPU or a GPU, but logic won out in the end. I prioritized the CPU first, then used the remaining budget for the best GPU I could afford. Two years later, I haven’t even needed to upgrade the CPU, let alone the GPU. I’d say you should do the same—focus on the CPU first because, honestly, it’s the CPU that’s bottlenecking your FPS in games these days (I kept thinking, "Should I just get a better GPU?" but now I see the RTX 3060 Ti is more than enough). Turns out, a 6-core CPU (like the Ryzen 5 5600X I went with) was all I needed for office work at home. I put the rest into the GPU (RTX 3060 Ti) and two years in, I haven’t had any issues—no slowdowns in games or office tasks. Just make sure you pick a solid GPU too, or you might end up with a CPU that outlasts your GPU by seven years. Balance is key—think long-term with your investments!
