How much do you spend when you say "budget PC"?

When we talk about budgets, do we now mean between 10-15k or 20-25k? Back in the day, a 7-10k budget could handle full HD gaming at the best settings, now even a mid-tier graphics card is hard to get with that budget. Do you think the definition of a budget has changed, or have prices just skyrocketed? Different opinions are welcome, mate.

Back in the day, bro, you could build some solid systems with a 10k budget—like grabbing a GTX 1660 Super and rocking high-to-medium settings in Full HD without a sweat. Now? A 10k budget barely covers mid-tier cards like the RX 7600 or RTX 4060, and even then, you’re scraping the bottom of the barrel. You’d need a 15-20k budget just to snag something like an RX 7700 XT or RTX 4070, and even then, you might have to dial back settings in newer games. Prices have skyrocketed so much that even CPUs are insane—used to be able to grab an 8700K for 2-3k, now a 13600KF runs 8-9k. The definition of a budget has completely shifted, bro. If you want a proper rig now, you’re looking at least 25k+, otherwise you’re stuck with either mediocre performance or a build that won’t age well.

Gotta talk about budget definitions, bro, because the system prices aren’t keeping up. Back in the day, you could build a killer system with a 10k budget, but now? No matter how much you throw at it, GPU, CPU, or RAM prices eat it all up. What didn’t they have back then? Money wasn’t an issue, and the standards consumers got were updated every 3-4 years—now it’s like every month. I don’t think the real issue is just rising prices—it’s what we even mean by a "budget PC" anymore. Is it 10-15k? 20-25k? If we’re aiming for mid-tier performance from a user’s perspective, dropping 20k to save is one thing, but the real problem is that even mid-tier has shifted into premium territory. Honestly, I think it’s all about the brands’ pricing strategies. Back then, modular systems were the norm, but now prebuilt systems dominate, and prices reflect that. So what if we do this? Like, with a 15-20k budget, could we hit the sweet spot of today’s mid-tier? Drop 20-25k and build a 1440p single-GPU system, but even that’s high performance these days. Here’s the kicker: what can you even get with a 10-15k budget now? Exactly—something that’d match a 25-30k system from 5-6 years ago is tough to pull off.

Last month, I went through this exact struggle, I swear. Back in the day, we'd pay 8-9k for a setup and still get smooth 1080p 60fps. I went with that mindset and tried to build a PC for 20k, but no matter where I looked, prices were at least half. For example, a 2070 Super was around 12k. "Fine, I'll get it," I thought, but then I checked the CPU—i5-10400F was still 3k! RAM 16GB was 2k, a 500GB SSD was 1k, and before I knew it, I was already at 25k before even touching the PC. So what did I end up doing? I went with a 15k budget and built an i3-12100F + 1660 Super combo. That card, which used to be mocked as mid-tier, is now the most sensible option in the budget range. I checked the games—GTA V runs perfectly smooth at 1080p Ultra. So yeah, prices have skyrocketed, but so has our definition of "budget." What used to be an 8k-10k budget is now 15k-20k, and we just have to deal with it.

I think the definition of a budget and prices have changed a lot, bro. Back in the day, you could build a mid-range system for 10-15k, but now you can barely get a Bell SOut 3 or RX 6600 for that price. In my opinion, with a budget of 20-25k, you can barely build a system that has some future-proofing. For example, mine recently dropped to around 22k, and I went with an i5 12400F + RX 6700 XT combo. I can still tweak it down to the finest details. Based on my experience, if you're stuck with a 10-15k budget, I'd say get a graphics card second-hand or go for a budget model (like an RX 6600) and invest in a more future-proof processor. That way, you can manage decently in games and have a system that'll last a few years. Prices have gotten to the point where even new mid-tier GPUs are stretching mid-range budgets.

Wow bro, you're right, prices have really skyrocketed. Back in 2021, I built a mid-range system for around 15-18k. It was a 3600X + RX 5700 XT + 16GB RAM + B450 board + 1TB NVMe combo. With that setup, I was getting over 100+ FPS on ultra settings in games, even Cyberpunk ran at around 60 FPS. Now, when I look at the same budget, I don't even have a flagship GPU. Trying to get an RX 7800 XT, it's going for around 20-22k. So yeah, the definition of a budget has changed because to get the same performance now, you're looking at around 25k+. Back then, spending 10k would make us go "wow, what an amazing system," now spending 10k gets us joking "is this even a budget PC?"

Hmm, yeah, you're totally right about that. Back in the day, I used to build a 1080p full ultra gaming system with a budget of around 8-10k. Nowadays, even an RTX 4060 is hard to get for that price. For instance, I built a mid-range system last month with a 20k budget, but that amount seems to have ballooned in my eyes—I ended up spending almost 25k, no exaggeration. I think the prices have really skyrocketed, especially for GPUs and motherboards. Back then, a good system could be built with a 7-10k budget, but now even 15k might not be enough. Honestly, with the market changing so much, it's tough to even talk about a "budget PC" anymore.

20k budget could get us a system 3-4 years ago, now it's going for 25-30k. Games that used to run at 100fps in 1080p now barely hit 60fps in 1440p. Prices have really inflated, bro.
